SIN, TRANSGRESSION AND INIQUITY.

//Understanding The Three Dimensions Of Human Wrongdoings//

ANCHOR TEXTS:

Exodus 34:7 (KJV)

7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

Psalm 32:5 (KJV)

“I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin.”

✍️ The Bible carefully distinguishes between sin, transgression, and iniquity. While they are related, they are not exactly the same. Understanding these differences helps us appreciate both the seriousness of sin and the completeness of Christ's redemption.

In Our Anchor Texts, notice that Exodus 34:7 and Psalm 32:5 deliberately mention sin, transgressions, and iniquity separately. The Holy Spirit is teaching us that these are not mere synonyms but different dimensions of mankind's fallen condition.

Sin describes our failure to meet God's holy standard.

Transgression speaks of our deliberate rebellion against God's revealed law.

Iniquity points to the inward crookedness and corruption of the heart that gives birth to sinful actions.

The beauty of the Gospel is that Jesus dealt with all three on the cross. He was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities, and through His atoning sacrifice, our sins are forgiven. Christ's redemption is therefore complete—it addresses not only what we have done, but also who we have become because of the fall.

This is why everyone who comes to Christ can receive forgiveness for sin, pardon for transgression, and cleansing from iniquity, becoming a new creation in Him.

1. SIN (Hamartia – "Missing the Mark")

Sin is falling short of God's standard. It may result from ignorance, weakness, carelessness, or failure to do what is right.

> Illustration: An archer aims at the target but misses the bull's-eye.

📖 Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."

Sin is the condition of every human being apart from God's grace.

2. TRANSGRESSION (Pesha – "Crossing the Line")

Transgression is a deliberate violation of God's command. It is knowing the boundary and intentionally stepping over it.

> Adam and Eve did not merely sin—they transgressed God's direct instruction by eating the forbidden fruit.

📖 James 4:17 "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin."

Transgression reflects rebellion against God's authority.

3. INIQUITY (Avon – "Twistedness or Perversity")

Iniquity goes deeper than an act. It refers to the crookedness of the heart—the inward corruption that produces sinful behavior. It is sin that has become ingrained in character and habit.

📖 Psalm 51:5 "Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me."

Iniquity is the root; sins are often the fruit.

The cross deals the root( Iniquity)
Blood deals with the shoot,( Transgression) and the Holy Spirit helps us overcome sin on daily basis ( the fruit).

The old man was crucified, the chain is broken, the stain is cleaned and the pain is healed through the sacrifice of Jesus.

Take advantage of this and walk in victory today and always.

DECLARATION/PRAYER

Father, thank You for the finished work of Christ. Search my heart, forgive every sin, cleanse every Transgression and uproot every Iniquity and create in me a clean heart.

Help me walk in holiness and obedience all the days of my life in Jesus name.Amen.

Good morning, are we go to go?
